Welcome to the Youngstown Neptunes Swim Team. We swim at the Youngstown YMCA Central, 17 N. Champion St.,
Youngstown, OH 44503 PH: (330) 744-8411
Congratulations to all Neptune swimmers who competed at our dual meet with Lake County Central. We won the meet and racked up a ton of personal best times in the process – all 129 of them! Swimmers knocked off huge chunks of time which was awesome.
Congratulations to the 11-12 Boys 200 yard Medley relay for obtaining a Zone time. The 11-12 Girls 200 Free relay and the 15 & Over Boys 200 Free relay also both swam Zone qualifying times. Nick Boniface swam a Zone time in the 15 & Over boys 100 breaststroke. Both Theresa Mikolay (11-12 Girls 50 yard breaststroke) and Gina Ungaro (9 & 10 Girls 50 yard butterfly) improved upon their pool records, and Gina also set a new pool record in the 9 & 10 Girls 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.93. This shatters the former record of 1:05.01 set in 1986 by Harvey of Warren.
Thank you to all the parents/families of our swimmers who made this past home meet such a success. The concession stand was another success thanks to you, and the meet ran very well thanks to all our volunteers and our fantastic starter, Vince Santangelo. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Practice this week – We will have practice Monday, Tuesday and Friday of this week. There will be no practice on Wednesday (help set the table, clean the house, stay out of the way!) or Thursday (all together now – turkey, turkey, turkey; and oh yea – wash the dishes). High schoolers can come in on Friday from 3:30 to 5:00 and grab a practice from the chair to use or they can come from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. if they’d like when coaches will be on deck. All other practice times on Friday are the same as always.
Next meet news – Our fourth meet will take place Saturday, December 5 at Ridgewood. Ridgewood’s address is 6840 Ridge Road Parma OH 44129. We warm-up at 1:15 and the meet starts at 1:45 p.m. If you CAN NOT ATTEND this meet, please sign off on the appropriate sheet on the Neptune Info board or use the form on our website. Please do so by this Monday, November 30.

Attention All Neptune Swimmers from Coach Sue...
It's smack-down time. Time to see what you're made of. Time to put purpose in your practice.
Time for the King Neptune Challenge!!
What is the King Neptune Challenge you ask? Let me tell ya...
Any swimmer who swims every dual meet event offered for their age group over the course of the Neptune swim season will have conquered the King Neptune Challenge. The events swum can be done at Neptune dual meets, YMCA invitationals or USA meets. You must finish each event and not be disqualified. So if the breaststroke kick is daunting, better get it legal. If the 100 fly seems impossible, better focus on that stroke in practice.
Everyone is automatically pre-entered into the King Neptune Challenge, but who will succeed?
REQUIREMENTS
* 8 & Unders must swim 25 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and do the 50 yard freestyle.
* 9 & 10s and 11 & 12s must swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly as well as a 200 free, 100 free and 100 IM (individual medley).
* 13 & 14 and 15 & Over swimmers must swim a 50 of freestyle, a 100 of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as a 200 freestyle, 200 IM, and 500 freestyle.
All swimmers who complete the King Neptune Challenge will win a cool King Neptune Challenge pin to put on their swim bag; warm-up jacket; high schoolers - put the pin on your swim letter.
The Pin is the award.
***High school swimmers, please turn in your times and events to Coach Sue when you swim at high school meets to meet the eligibility requirements for this award. Thank you.
Remember we share our YMCA with other members...even during HOME meets.
Here are a few do's and don'ts to remember:
DO | DON'T |
DO Enjoy your snacks in the Youth Lobby | DON'T Sneak a snack in the gym area |
DO WALK through our halls and deck area with your shoes on. | DON'T RUN to any area of the YMCA |
DO - NEPTUNE families are encouraged to use the RIGHT half of the gym. | DON'T Forget to welcome our visitors |
DO - NEPTUNE families are encouraged to network with other families (in different age groups) so that eveyone can see their child swim. This is important when sitting in the bleachers. | DON'T Forget to be considerate to others. |
THANK YOU!
