Howl at the Moon Invitational

There is a new YMCA invitational being held this year that we will try to attend as a team!  It's the "Howl at the Moon" YMCA invitational swim meet at Lake East YMCA in Painsville on November 1st.  Let's get as many swimmers as we can at this meet!  If we can get enough participation, then I'm told that some of our coaches will consider swimming in the coach/parent relay!!!  This looks like a really FUN invitational, with pumpkin relays and many mixed male-female relays, along with individual events.  All you need to do is review the meet information on our bulletin board at the Y or on www.neoyswim.org.  Choose which individual events you'd like your child to swim and give that information to one of the coaches or you can e-mail Karla Cabrera at yneptunes@hotmail.com.  Your entries should be accompanied by a check for $3.00 per event made out to Y-Neptunes.  The coaches will select relays so please just send me your individual events!  I need all entries no later than Monday, October 12th.

Also... There are VERY COOL T-shirts available to purchase from this meet.  Please let me know when you send in your entries if you'd like to purchase a meet T-shirt.  They are $15.00 each and feature a wolf howling in front of a Glow In The Dark Moon!  You can pay for the meet T-shirt on the same check as your entry fees.  Just let me know what size you need.

Other Upcoming Invitational deadlines:
October 9th - USA Mark Braun meet on November 20-22 (USA Team only) Cleveland State Univ.

Invitational Information

Welcome to the page that will explain about YMCA Invitationals.  The Northeastern part of Ohio and also Western PA are loaded with YMCA invitational meets. If you have not had your fill of swim meets from our dual meet schedule, then why not try out some YMCA Invitationals? Below is basic information you will need to know about signing up for and attending a YMCA invitational.

  1. Before reading on about this topic, it is important to know that your first responsibility as a Y-Neptune swimmer is to your Y-Neptune team. If a Y-Neptunes’ swim meet (dual meet, Divisionals, Leagues, or Zones) is taking place on the same day as a YMCA invitational meet, you must attend the Y-Neptunes’ swim team event to support your Neptune team.

  2. Know most northeast Ohio Y invitational swim meets are held on “off weekends” (when we do not have a dual meet, or Divisionals, Leagues or Zones scheduled) so usually there is not a conflict. But there can be a conflict with meets held in PA. For example, there is a Y invitational in PA on October 20 – the same date as our first home dual meet of the season. As a Neptune swimmer you must attend our dual meet. Know that our YMCA dual meets are held on Saturdays. Divisionals is held on either the first Saturday or Sunday in February (this is a mandatory meet for all Y-Neptunes), and Leagues is always held on the first Saturday in March. Because of this most YMCA Invitationals are held on Sundays (if a dual meet is scheduled for Saturday) or as stated above, on our “off weekends” when we do not have a dual meet scheduled.

  3. There are entry fees for Y-Invitationals Divisionals, Leagues and Zones. There are no entry fees to participate in Y-Neptune dual meets.

  4. We have a parent volunteer, Karla Cabrera, who will take your entries and fees and enter you in any YMCA invitational meet you wish to attend that she posts. She will also be updating this page with information on what meets are available and when entries and fees are due to her. This information will also be posted on our Neptune Info Board in the Youth Lobby of the downtown YMCA.

  5. At this time, Y-Neptune coaches are not required to attend YMCA invitational meets. However, if a sizeable group decides to attend a meet (15 or more swimmers) then a coach will try to make arrangements to attend as well.

  6. Why go to a YMCA invitational?  You choose what events you swim and awards are given; often medals, trophies and ribbons, to those who place. You get to see new places and pools. And you get to compete against swimmers you might not see until Divisionals or Leagues.

  7. If you have any questions about attending YMCA invitationals, please contact Karla Cabrera at karla_jones_cabrera@hotmail.com (330-651-6029) or contact Coach Sue at suemellish@gmail.com (330-424-1128).
